I'd check the ground connection (where the negative terminal of the battery connects to the frame). Make sure the contact there is tight and there is no corrosion.

If that looks OK the only real solution is to use a voltmeter to trace back along the wiring to see where your problem is. I'd also check the fuses to make sure they are good and again that the contacts aren't corroded.

Well it certainly doesn't have a kill switch on the stand so my guess is that by putting it on the center stand you're flexing the frame enough to make a good ground connection at some point that's either loose or corroded. I'd take a look at the point at which the battery is connected to the frame and make sure that's tight. Also check the connections to the starter motor.

I think it has to be flexing something that's normally an intermittant connection enough that it makes a good connection when the scooter is supported by the center stand.

Good Luck!

I have a Road Runner 150cc Classic (a GY6 type Chinese scooter).  It does not require the scooter to be on the center stand to start, however, today it would not start unless I put it on the center stand, and it dies when I take it off the center stand.  Leading up to this it has been a bit difficult to start over the past month, but it never required to be put on the center stand.
The scooter is 9 months old. Here is a link to the sales page: http://evosales.com/pd-classic-moped-150cc.cfm

I'd check the throttle linkage again. I'm not sure how it could redline the tach without riding WOT. Of course it's possible the tach is faulty.

The 50 to 80cc conversion kits can give you a bit more performance, though they do need some mechanical ability to install. You have take apart at least half of the engine! Also, to get the full benefit you might need to rejet the carb and mess around with the transmission variator weights and springs.

If you really need more power and speed, I'd look for a used 150cc scooter.

It's more towards the front of the engine. There may be a small removable panel just below the front of the seat that allows access to the spark plug.

Thank you for your reply.  This is a fairly new thing it is doing.  The throttle is not fully open when it does this and I have put a lot of miles on it since I started riding it.  After reading some info on this site I figured it probably needed some routine maintainence maybe involving the carb.  I also found a kit that turns a 50 cc scooter into an 80 cc.  is this advisable?

Don't know your particular scooter but on mine you can check the enricher ("choke") by powering it up and seeing if the length of the "plunger" on the end changes. On mine I thing the length changed by maybe 1/4" after a few minutes.

Otherwise hard strting can be caused by a number of things. Badly adjusted valves, incorrect timing, carb issues, weak battery etc.

Since (I assume) your scooter has the usual CVT transmission, you can't match revs to speed since the gear ratio is constantly changing with your speed and load. I don't know your particular scooter but it's pretty normal to see high revs when you start out and are still at low speed, especially if you fully open the throttle. The revs will drop as your speed increases and the gear ratios change.

I'm not sure what you mean by "sounding real rough". If it doesn't idle well, most of the time it's a problem that can be cured by cleaning and adjusting the carb

I am new to the forum and have found it very informative.  I love my scooter and used to ride it daily.  We have replaced the throttle cable and that is all so far.  It is a 49/50 cc Meitian MT50QT-2.  It still starts but it is sounding real rough.  Also right away at 10 or 15 mph as soon as I start riding the rpms are redlined.  Any idea?  Is it a carb issue?

Thanks
