Scooter Helmets (and Motorcycle Helmets)
There's absolutely no doubt that the most important safety accessory any scooter or motorcycle rider can own is a good quality helmet. It's been proven over and over again that a helmet reduces the probability of serious injury in a crash by a significant amount.
Motorcycle crash statistics (scooters aren't generally seperated from motorcycles in statistics on accidents) show that helmets are about 37 percent effective in preventing crash fatalities. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates an unhelmeted rider is 40 percent more likely to suffer a fatal head injury and 15 percent more likely to incur a nonfatal head injury than a helmeted rider.
